I used to think that when you have sex with someone you love, then you would make love. It means that love would be the key element. But I soon realized that love certainly helps but it doesn’t mean that you’re making love. You can have sex with your wife or girlfriend that you truly love and still ”only” have sex. And don’t get me wrong, sex can be great, but it’s not quite making love.

Then I thought, If you love your partner and you try to be gentle, spend a lot of time on foreplay and go slow during intercourse, you must be making love. I was getting closer but I would still end up having sex.

In my opinion, one part of the answer is to be able to have a deep connection with your partner. And you can have a deep connection in your daily life but it’s harder in your sex life. In order to have a deep connection with your partner in your sex life, you have to be fully present, you have to be really you and let your partner connect with you. That means you gotta have the guts to let go your barriers and be vulnerable. It’s a hard thing to do but if you do it, you also allow your partner to be fully present and to open herself to you.

So the key element here is ”Confidence”. Because it take a lot of self-confidence to open up to someone else, to be truly yourself and have no fears. It’ hard but when the two of you are in that state of openness, you are most likely Making Love.

One answer that I hear often is Passion. While I think passion is a great thing and it certainly helps, I don’t passion makes the difference between great sex and making love. If we look at a definition, passion is a strong and powerful emotion. You can have a passionate love but also a passionate hate for something. I think passion will turn anything from ordinary to extraordinary. So if you put passion into sex, you’ll have amazing sex. And if you put passion into love making, you’ll have the best experience of your life!

I think there’s nothing wrong with ”just sex”. And I certainly enjoy great sex or passionate sex. I don’t think it’s possible to really make love every time.  Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for sex! But once it a while, nothing beats making love. Like I said, you gotta have a strong confidence in yourself and have to be willing to try.
